Looking for a free cruise? Do you have a birthday between November 14 and December 19? Can you be in the Caribbean on the MSC Poesia (above) on your birthday?

If the second person in your cabin pays a minimum of $529 for the fare…if you book between now and December 12…if there is space available on select cruises between November 14 and December 19, your cruise is free.

Geez, I’m tired just outlining all this.

Here’s the 25-words-or-less version: If you’re on the ship on your birthday and follows the rules, you get a free cruise. Okay, one more thing. You have to pay the taxes and fees for your free cruise.

The air just went out of my balloon.

So if you’re sailing on the Poesia and you meet the rules…you will have some extra money to celebrate your birthday. Sounds to me like it’s for new bookings.

Saint John is pleased with its 2010 cruise season — a record for new passengers of over 200,000. I can attest to the popularity of Atlantic Canada in the late summer by the number of ships I saw during my trip from New York to Quebec and back.

Jim Quinn, the CEO of the Saint John Port Authority, explains the impact this way:

“These businesses are the backbone of the natural tourism products which surround the port all along the Bay of Fundy and up the Saint John River. These, together with the numerous merchants in the Saint John and surrounding area, have very much contributed to this successful cruise season at our port.”

The Port of Seattle also set a new record with more than 900,000 passengers booked on cruises from the port during the last year. They’re mainly sailing to Alaska, so that is a good sign for Vancouver that the market it is returning to form. With Disney sailing out of Vancouver next summer, and Crystal stopping as well, Vancouver numbers will certainly increase, too.

Prices held up well for Alaska this year — another good sign for the market.

All for now.
